Summer ramp temperatures make daytime exterior work genuinely hard on both the crew and the products, since anything applied to a hot surface flashes before it can be worked properly. What brightwork & metal polishing means at KVNY

Polished aluminum, leading edges, spinners, and exhaust stacks.

Bare polished aluminum has no clear coat over it, so every pass is on the metal itself.

Polishing in ramp heat is unworkable. Compound flashes, pads load up, and the panel gets too hot to control, which is why this runs at night or inside.

Airborne grit is the enemy of polished metal. One piece caught in a pad draws a line you can read from thirty feet.

How a job at KVNY runs

Polishing runs in stages and a full airframe is usually a multi day job. Joel assesses in raked light before quoting, because old sealant, previous polish work, and pitting all change the answer, and pitting is a maintenance item rather than a polishing one.
