Mobile Car Detailing in Los Angeles and Across California
JJ Detailing Direct is an aircraft detailing business first. Joel Espiritu spends most nights in hangars and on ramps. The cars came along because the same skills apply, and because customers kept asking.
Aircraft paint is thin, expensive, and inspected up close by people who fly the thing. Work to that standard and a car is straightforward. Joel comes to you anywhere in California except San Diego County. Estimates are free.

Car exterior detailing, learned on aircraft paint
A car exterior detailing job runs in the same order as an airframe. Wash first, decontaminate second, correct third, protect last. Skip a step and you grind dirt into the finish. On most Southern California cars the trouble is the horizontal panels. Roof, hood, and trunk lid take direct sun all day, and clear coat gives out there years before the doors show anything. Sap, bug splatter, and hard water spots that have baked on for a week stop wiping off and need a clay bar. Joel polishes by feel rather than by a fixed recipe, because paint thickness varies panel to panel on a car the same way it does on a wing.
Car interior detailing and auto upholstery
Interior work is slower than exterior work and always has been. Seats come out dirtier than they look once an extractor pulls the water back through them, and auto upholstery holds far more than the surface shows. A car shampoo service on cloth seats and carpet means hot water extraction, not a spray and a wipe. Leather gets cleaned and conditioned separately, because the two need different chemistry. Pet hair is its own job and gets quoted as its own job, since a back seat full of dog hair can take an hour by itself. Glass goes last, inside and out, because everything else throws dust onto it. See car interior detailing.
Mobile car wash service and mobile vehicle washing
There is no shop to drive to. This is a service area business, so mobile car detailing happens wherever the car already sits: a driveway, an office garage, a hangar apron next to the aircraft Joel came out for. Book the time and leave the keys. Most jobs need a normal outlet and a spigot, and if the building has neither, say so on the phone and Joel plans around it. Low clearance in a parking structure is worth mentioning too. Hours run 24 a day Monday through Saturday, closed Sunday, which is how a car in a downtown garage gets finished overnight before the building fills up.
Engine bay cleaning, and why it is worth booking
Engine bay cleaning is the service people ask about least and regret skipping most. A clean bay makes an oil weep, coolant seepage, or a cracked hose visible instead of buried under ten years of road film, which matters at trade in and matters more at a pre purchase inspection. It is also the service most likely to go wrong in careless hands. Covered intakes, covered electrical connections, low pressure, and controlled water are the whole job. Joel does the same thing around aircraft wheel wells and belly panels, where a soaked connector is a maintenance write up rather than an inconvenience. Book it on its own or as an add on.
Car detailing cost and auto detailing prices
There is no price list on this page because a fair number depends on the car in front of you. Size is the smallest factor. What actually moves car detailing cost is condition: how long since the last real wash, whether the paint has been through tunnel washes and picked up swirls, whether anything organic has been sitting on it, and whether the interior has kids, dogs, or a spilled drink in it. Two identical sedans can be an hour apart. Most auto detailing prices published online are averages from somewhere else. Estimates here are free. Send photos or describe the car and Joel gives a real number. More on auto detailing prices.
Car detailing Pasadena and 15 more California cities
Joel is based in Pasadena and works out from there, so Pasadena jobs usually land same day or next day with no travel charge. There are written pages for the areas he works most: Los Angeles, Burbank, San Bernardino, Long Beach, Glendale, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, North Hollywood, Monrovia, Arcadia, Pomona, Torrance, Calabasas, Newport Beach, and Irvine. Each names what actually damages paint there, because marine layer salt and refinery fallout are different problems. Outside those cities he still travels. The aircraft work already puts him on the road most weeks.

How much does car detailing cost?
Condition sets the price more than size does. A well kept commuter and a neglected one of the same model can be an hour apart in labor. Sap, heavy swirl marks, pet hair, and spilled drinks all add time. Joel gives free estimates by phone or from photos, and the number he quotes is the number.
Do you tip car detailers?
Tips are not expected and nobody gets treated differently for skipping one. Detailers working for a shop usually see only a share of what you paid, so a tip goes further there. Joel runs his own business and sets his own price, so the honest answer is that a referral is worth more than a tip.
How often should you clean your car?
For a car parked outside in Southern California, a wash every two to four weeks and a full detail twice a year stays ahead of the damage. Sun, sap, and bird droppings all etch clear coat if they sit. A garaged car can stretch longer, though brake dust and cabin dust still build up.
Can you use dish soap to wash your car?
It works, and that is the problem. Dish soap is built to strip grease, so it strips wax, sealant, and ceramic coating off the paint along with the dirt. Do it once and the car loses its protection and starts spotting and oxidizing faster. Use a pH neutral car wash soap instead.
How do you get tree sap off a car?
Fresh sap comes off with an isopropyl alcohol solution or a dedicated sap remover on a soft towel. Then rewax the spot, because whatever removed the sap also removed the protection under it. Sap that has baked in sun for a week has hardened into the clear coat and needs a clay bar, sometimes a light polish.
What is paint correction on cars?
Paint correction is machine polishing that removes a very thin layer of clear coat to level out swirl marks, tunnel wash scratches, and light oxidation. It is not a filler or a glaze, so the result does not wash back off. Clear coat is finite, which is why it should be done properly and not often.
